« one summer day... »

Sorry it's taken me a while to get around to posting this story! What a whirlwind of a month – I can barely keep up! Many of you have already celebrated with me in person by now but for those that haven't heard the story, hear goes...

On 6.23.12, Alex completely shocked me with a surprise date to the same beach we had one of our first dates at. Just as we were watching an amazing show put on by a storm passing a ways out, over the ocean, he asked me to put my wine down and stand up for a photo in front of the incredible sky. Saying he just had to "grab our tripod" (which was actually the ring, hidden in his jacket), I stood up and turned around to him getting on his knee and... everything in the world just stopped.

The most perfect moment was suddenly topped with an even MORE perfect question. My answer? yes yes yes yes YES YES YES YES (about 20+ times)!!!!

Oscar started running loops around us on the empty beach – followed by myself and Alex running around, jumping, screaming and laughing like crazy people!

Once we caught our breath, we tried our best to document with iphone cameras:

Funny story about the first time we visited Horesneck Beach – we had no idea they locked the gate at 8pm! We sat and watched the sunset in our own little falling-in-love world, completely oblivious, and consequently got locked in! We had to call the state troopers to come let us out, all bug bitten and rosy cheeked! This time, we were careful to leave with plenty of time to get back to the city for reservations at Bergamot – where we filled up on wine, delicious food, champagne and dessert... Such a perfect end to the night!

Other crazy fact – I WORE THE SAME DRESS! Seriously. And his face when I came out of the bedroom to leave, in retrospect, was priceless – I hadn't worn it since that first date, a year back – he was floored!

Oh and of course, there's the RING! He had it custom made from one of my favorite jewelery designers, Mociun. I had fallen in love with a similar ring by them and sent it to him it forever ago – a green-blue sapphire in the middle, with an aquamarine on one side and a red diamond on the other, both flanked by white diamonds – it's perfect and I keep catching myself staring at it nonstop!

A good friend of mine looked up the meanings behind each stone – and what a wonderful representation of our relationship: Sapphire has long symbolized truth, sincerity, and faithfulness, Aquamarine is a stone of courage, The red diamond is considered to be a major stress-reliever, helpful to your emotional well-being during marriage, white diamonds represent love, romance, and loyalty.

What's next? Well, besides pinning wedding ideas to my heart's content, we've made a few key decisions such as choosing our wedding party and planning the engagement dinner. I've just started designing our wedding site (of course!!) and our next big decision is the venue and date – we're thinking outside somewhere, next September! I'll be updating the blog as ideas come up – and I promise not to turn Daucus Carota into a wedding blog – promise ;)

A huge thanks to all of our friends and family for your support this past year and for all your advice and help this past month! We're so thrilled and excited and can't wait for what's to come!
