where's oscar...

Sorry but I had to. The costume was just too cute not to order.

Sarah snapped a million of him but he wouldn't move once the glasses were in place – too hilarious.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Have a fun weekend and be safe ;)

a very organized warby parker story...

If you've been following local bloggers on facebook, instagram and the like, you're probably well aware that Warby Parker was in town last week for their Class Trip tour. While we were too slammed to make it to their bus in Faneuil Hall, we were lucky enough to have them come to us! Not only did I get to try on (and fall in love with the Bensen frames in Olivewood), but we got to chat about the Boston design scene, blogger scene, fashion scene and of course the music scene... :)

Afterwards, I visited their site again and stumbled upon THIS gorgeously-designed page – holy wow do I love this layout! What a great combination of simple elements mixed into a clean grid that both introduces their new Titanium line and helps tell the story of their creation. Great job, guys – you managed to hit the nail on the head without going overboard! The page feels light and airy but still interesting and moves the eye around.

ps my Dad (aka Clement Evan Sutton III) so needs the Clement frames!!

have a lovely weekend! xo, Jess and Martha

If you've been following our facebook page, you know we've been cranking out sites left and right this month. And while we're SO excited to tell you all about them, there simply has been zero time to write up a post, blast, etc to summarize. Hopefully we can get something up next week – in the meantime, have a lovely weekend!

people vs places...

People vs Places by Timothy Burkhart and Stephanie Bassos

Just trolling through Liz's always-impressive Weekend Wrap-Up (holy wow – so many great exhibits in Boston this month) and clicked through to read more about a photo from a series called People vs Places. Come to find out, it's a project by two photographers, all documented on their blog.

This is a photographic collaboration between photographers Timothy Burkhart and Stephanie Bassos. This double exposure project allows us to step back from having full control of the image making process and trust in one another while allowing coincidences to happen naturally on film. Stephanie exposes a full roll of 35mm film of only "people," and Timothy reloads the film again into the same camera, to imprint only "places" and locations to the same roll. These images are all the end result of our ongoing series and are unedited negatives straight from the camera.

this week martha is inspired by...

...Sarah Burton's spring/summer 2013 RTW collection for Alexander McQueen. For this season's collection, Burton gleaned her inspiration from bees. Yup... bees. And I must say, the end result is spectacular! I'm particularly awed by work for two reasons: One, while Burton laid the bee theme on pretty thick (golden hues, honeycomb textures, oversized beekeeper hats, and nipped, wasp-like waistlines) at no point did the collection seem contrived. One misguidedly placed bejeweled bumblebee, and the collection could easily have taken a nosedive into kitsch-ville, but Burton presented an extremely high end and coherent collection, proving her mastery of the medium. The second reaason I have such admiration for Burton's work is her constant attention to detail. Each look she sent down the runway was impeccabily tailored and accessorized. Burton's work proves that it really is worth it to go the extra mile, whether in fashion, or in say... graphic design. Her collection serves as a reminder that the devil really is, as they say, in the details.

stitched stars...

stitched star chart by the made shop

Nothing like an over-sized, custom made, cross-stitched star chart to surprise the star-gazer or astrology fan in your life! Just send the team at The Made Shop a date, time and location (and roughly $400) and they'll hand-stitch that night's sky! Love it.

today martha is inspired by...

...Jeffrey Dorne's hipster logos! Now, I don't speak french, so I can't tell you the designer's intent for sure, but I'm guessing that he's simultaneously celebrating AND poking fun at the current trends in brand design by applying them to iconic existing logos. But that might just be my Art History minor speaking. Either way, I love them. Which is your favorite?

XO,

Martha
